 "UT" Chipformer

The UT Chipformer for Grooving and Parting of High Cr and Ni Alloys
The unique DO-GRIP line and some CUT-GRIP and SELF-GRIP inserts for parting and grooving are now available with the UT chipformer. This new chipformer is an addition to the currently available inserts with C, J and Y type chipformers. The new chipformer design is characterized by a deep frontal groove, sharp cutting edges, high positive rake angles and at the back, a high chip deflector. All of these elements ensure excellent machining and chip control with workpieces made of medium to high Cr and Ni steel alloys.

The positive rake angles and sharp edges minimize the strain-hardening phenomena and thereby reduce friction and tool wear. The higher rear-side wall eliminates longer chips - it forces the chips to be short, curled, broken C-shaped.

The inserts with UT chipformers are available in PVD coated, submicron grade IC308, designed for harder materials, and in the PVD coated IC354 for general use. The DO-GRIP inserts DGN and HGN are available in widths of 2.2, 3 and 6 mm (.087, .118, .236'') having corner radii of 0.2, 0.3 and 0.8 mm (.0079, .0118, .031'') respectively. The UT chipformers are very useful in the manufacture of automotive parts, bearing rings, tubes and hydraulic parts. UT is also recommended for CNC machines and machines with manipulators, where short chips are essential.
