New Upgraded DR Drills with Twisted Coolant Holes

ISCAR is introducing a new family of DR drills which use new square inserts with 4 cutting edges. The new drills were designed with twisted coolant holes that pass through the drill flutes. The new design leaves more room for the chips to flow out of the hole uninterrupted.
The coolant holes do not pass through the center core of the drill, therefore, the drill is stronger and more resistant to torsion.
Together with the new drills, three new insert sizes are being introduced.
The new SOMX inserts in 05, 06 and 07 sizes are thicker than the former SOMT and XOMT 06 inserts. A new carbide grade, IC9080,
is being introduced.
It is a coated, submicron substrate with a thick (16 µm), multilayer MTCVD coating comprising TiCN Al2O3 and TiN as the external layer. IC9080 is recommended for machining cast iron and alloy steel.
It shows a substantial advantage over the current grades being used and should be used for the outer insert on DR drills.
For general applications and a wide range of materials, the well-known IC908 grade should be used.
The new drills are available in drilling depth to diameter ratio of 2xD, 3xD and 4xD and in a diameter range of 14 to 24 mm.
The new drills are available in whole metric sizes as well as half sizes in the above-mentioned range.
